Artist Statement on Artwork:
"Abundance" is a gouache painting about scarce resources but abundance in others with strength in community and family. I often remember how many in my community and I did not have much to eat and would use rice to fill the gaps of hunger that were left in our bellies. As a child there was so much joy in eating warm rice I often felt that this experience was rich - although by many definitions others would not agree. Rice as a shelf-safe food that can survive rot and perishment in tough conditions that sustained us, inspired me. I still believe these memories that many share with me are a comfort even as an adult."
